Making a simple macramé plant hanger requires zero previous experience and gives your home that premium, textured look.

When you start collecting plants, you quickly run out of floor and table space. The solution? Look up! Hanging plants draw the eye upward, making your rooms feel taller and more alive. Plus, it is the perfect way to keep toxic plants away from curious pets and toddlers.

You don’t need to buy expensive hangers. Making a simple macramé plant hanger requires zero previous experience and gives your home that premium, textured look.

The 4-Knot Wonder

You only need two things: natural cotton cord and a wooden ring.

  • Cut 4 long pieces of cotton cord (about 2 yards each).
  • Fold them all in half, loop them through the wooden ring, and tie a large knot at the top. You now have 8 cords hanging down.
  • Divide the 8 cords into 4 pairs. Tie a simple knot in each pair about 15 inches down from the top.
  • Now, take one cord from a pair, and tie it to the neighboring cord from the next pair, about 4 inches down. Repeat this in a circle to create a “basket” for your pot.
  • Tie one final, large knot at the very bottom with all 8 cords to secure the base.

Slip your favorite fern or trailing plant pot into the center, hang it by a sunny window, and enjoy the cozy vibe. Have you ever tried macramé?
